Just before the New Year I was asked the following sports forecast question by a loyal Green Bay Packers fan: “Will the Packers make it to the Super Bowl?” Dec 28, 2012, 2:42 p.m. CST Wauwatosa, WI; 14 Gemini Asc (chart below).
In sports forecast charts the key to judgment is the condition of the team's significator. The querent strongly identifies with his team, so the Packers are Lord 1, Mercury, ruler of Gemini on the first house cusp. In the current sign, Sagittarius (= this season), Mercury is in detriment and under the sunbeams. We don't go into the next sign (= next season). This makes judgment simple: the answer is No.
For a team to get to the Super Bowl, we'd have to see significant strength, either essentially by sign placement or accidentally, by (e.g.) conjunction to the MC or the seventh house cusp. There's just nothing here to suggest a strong post-season showing for the Packers, so logically judgment must be No.
Does a contest horary support the above conclusion regarding the Packers? Let's take a look. This question was mine: “Will the Pack beat San Fran this weekend?” Jan 10, 2013, 12:57 p.m. CST Wauwatosa, WI; 28 Taurus Asc (second chart below).
The Packers are first house and its lord, Venus. San Francisco is the seventh house and its lord, Mars.
Uh, oh. Right away we see the South Node sitting fairly close to the first house cusp. A detrimented Jupiter is in the first house; although not in the sign on the cusp, this is still problematic. Where is Venus? It’s in the eighth house, not a good place to be.
In contrast, San Fran's house is empty (no planets are placed there) but the antiscia of the Sun and Mercury fall there. These could be problematic, but it's likely a minor problem at the worst. Where is Mars? It’s in the tenth house, a strong place to be, so Mars has more accidental dignity than Venus does. Combined with the testimonies mentioned above, this signals a win for San Francisco.
Bummer for us Packers fans if these judgments prove true! Game time is 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, January 12, 2013. I'll be back later in the evening with post-game analysis.
