Last month’s horary chart (“Will Donald Trump be impeached?”--here) has inspired a look at Trump’s natal chart to see what stands out at first view. His chart appears in the gallery below.
If you follow my writing you know that I despise Mr. Trump; I won’t pretend that I don’t. It seems fair to say he’s a controversial figure at best, whether you love the guy or hate him. This is my first take at understanding how Trump’s natal chart reflects the man, especially in his role as President of the United States.
Trump’s temperament is overwhelmingly hot; there is no cold available to balance the heat. This dominance of heat speaks to his aggressive tendencies and lack of empathy (“You’re fired!”). His temperament is more choleric than sanguine, though not by much.
What has Trump become most known for as President? If you said his tweets, that was my thought, too. In light of this I find his Mars conjunct Necessity (super Mercury) on the Ascendant to be especially fitting. Writer David Von Drehle calls Trump’s twitter storms ‘tweetrums’ (1). Others have called them twitter rants. The Sun is conjunct Mercury by antiscion (Sun 22 Gem/Merc 8 Cancer), a second testimony of strong Mercurial traits. Recall what a cunning deceiver Mercury can be! (Read here for more thoughts on that.)
Oppositions are built into Trump’s very structure. He was born on a Full Moon, so the Sun-Mercury combo opposes the Moon. The nodes run across this opposition, putting a big spotlight on it. Then, the Mars-Necessity pairing on the Ascendant opposes Fortuna (super Moon) on the Descendant, also spotlit. Spirit (super Sun) and Courage (super Mars) are conjunct in the seventh house, opposing Love (super Venus) in the first. These oppositions call to mind a battlefield, with soldiers facing off from the trenches!
Several fixed stars are prominent in Trump’s chart. Regulus (Heart of the Lion, a royal star) is on the Ascendant, while Algol is on the Midheaven. Trump’s Sun is conjunct Al Hecka (the Bull’s Horn), and his Moon is on Rasalhague (Head of the Snake Charmer). Saturn, Lord 6/7, is on Pollux (also royal).
Regulus signifies ‘greatness of soul’. The theme of Regulus is doing what must be done regardless of the consequences. I can imagine Trump’s proponents making an argument for how this fits. I can’t pretend to agree, but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see where things stand at the end of his presidency.
As for Algol, this star is like a user’s manual for Venus (right relationship). Trump is good at pitting people against each other, so I don’t believe he has mastered this just yet. In fact, he excels at exploiting resentment and bigotry for his own purposes. Von Drehle writes:
Two years after his late-in-life entry into politics, Trump has yet to play the role of a healer. His gift for locating sore spots and poking at them is undeniable, but part of a President’s job is to bring people together. (2)
Trump’s Sun on Al Hecka captures his essential nature very well, in my view. The Bull’s Horn is meant to gore; it is not something you want to encounter! “This is a President who attacks everyone,” Bernie Sanders has said recently (3). Everyone, that is, except authoritarian figures like Russia’s Vladimir Putin, the Philippines’ Rodrigo Duterte, and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan, all of whom Trump has praised since taking office.
I’m not sure what to make of Rasalhague (conjunct the Moon, 21 Sagittarius). Robson writes that Rasalhague is associated with perverted morals, mental depravity, and misfortune through women (4). One could certainly argue that this fits, though generally speaking Robson's interpretations are to be taken with a grain of salt. To me Rasalhague on the Moon seems to capture Trump’s ability to woo the masses with his words.
Speaking of words, Trump has also become known for lying. Does he lie deliberately? Many believe so. The New York Times recently published a list of his lies to date. It’s an impressive collection:
I may study Trump’s directed charts for 2016 and 2017 for clues re: the puzzling testimonies in my impeachment horary. If I do, I’ll share those thoughts in another post soon. In the meantime, thanks for stopping by!
