In 2012 I wrote about a piece about one woman's experience of a love she termed 'limerence'. A favorite album around my house at that time was Red by pop-country sensation Taylor Swift.
Red is all about 'crazy love', as Swift calls it. Here’s an excerpt from her CD notes, in color just as it appears in the original:
I am working on some more serious posts to share with you and intend to have some material ready soon. In the meantime, I thought we might enjoy a little more song fun together.
Venus signifies 'woman' in astrology. Western society's beliefs about what constitutes the ideal woman have changed over time. What qualities should she possess? Is she to be plump and round, or tall and thin? Domestic, or worldly? Sweet and mild, smart and sassy, or some combination?
My 11-year-old loves pop singer Katy Perry, so I’ve been hearing a lot of her songs lately. In “Hot ‘n Cold,” Katy tells a boyfriend why he’s no good for her:
‘Cause you’re hot then you’re cold
You’re yes then you’re no
You’re in then you’re out
You’re up then you’re down
We have made monthly visits to Grandma’s house since my daughter was a baby. Now that she’s nearly 13, part of the routine is listening to her favorite tunes in the car. I’m not one who can work and listen to music at the same time, so I enjoy the chance just to sit back and listen as we travel.
My readers know that I like finding astrological themes in songs, film, and TV. Here’s a song that’s clearly relevant to astrology: Lady Gaga's “Born This Way.”
My almost-teenaged daughter loves pop-country artist Taylor Swift. Her latest CD, "Red," is on the frequent playlist at our house lately.
Okay, I'll admit it: I love this artist, too! She’s hugely talented and tells great stories through her sassy songs. She has written some wonderful tunes.
If you’ve read this blog for a while you know I like to identify the astrological symbols and issues at play in films and TV. So now we’re going to add songs, too, just for fun!
Planetary receptions in the natal chart tell us about a person’s inner workings: what motivates them, their likes and dislikes, their inner harmonies and discords. Tensions are inevitable because we are human. Although these tensions cause us difficulties, they also serve as fuel for the creative fire.
Such was my thought when I first looked at the chart of singer-guitarist Phil Everly, of Everly Brothers fame, after his death in January 2014. Even a brief study of his nativity reveals some of the tensions that must have contributed to his own creative process.
The clock tells me I have 37 minutes before May turns into June in my part of the world. That's just enough time to squeeze in one more blog post for May :)
Venus is in early Taurus right now. And tonight, Moon and Jupiter happily come together with major mutual reception in Cancer. Time for a love song!
I’m in one of those patches in my life where the writing just isn’t happening. “Sometimes you’ll have that,” I can hear one of my friends saying. I have some natal studies in the works but nothing ready to serve out of the pot for a while yet.
In the meantime, I have a little music to share with you. Having a music-loving teenager in my house means I get to hear all the latest stuff, and I like a lot of it! Here are two songs from among my daughter’s favorites right now. The two go as a pair of opposites in my mind, astrologically speaking: an IC sort of song and an MC sort of song, respectively. Let’s see if you agree.
